My Faith Votes

By Vicky McCain

Recently I was confronted with an opportunity to trust the faithfulness of The Lord in my life. I am convinced that He is always calling us to advance into His purposes for our lives if we will trust and obey His voice. It’s not always easy but it sure is fun to be a part of watching Him do what He does. Before I start preaching, let me share my story.

A few months ago, I began praying for The Lord to show me a practical way to involve myself in the upcoming election. I pray with a group of ladies on a regular basis who have been contending for months concerning our nation and this election. This is the most important thing we can do but I needed something more.

August 23rd God answered my prayer. Dutch Sheets has a 15 minute devotional he calls “Give Him 15”. I listen every morning and engage in the prayers and declarations. This particular morning, he shared about an organization called “My Faith Votes” and how they are working to encourage Christians to vote for Biblical values in all elections. They have very practical and proven methods they are using. One of the tools they use is sending letters to Christians who are registered to vote in swing states but do not vote consistently. These letters are already generated but need to be personalized for each recipient. By personally asking them to vote they have found that the percentage of involvement goes up between 20%-50%. Those are great returns for a small investment and can have a significant impact.

As I listened to Dutch, I felt something go off inside of me and I knew I had to get involved. Without asking my friends, I committed us to 500 letters. The 12 of us would cover the cost of the postage while engaging in the battle practically. After sharing the vision with them, they agreed to help me and so it was done.

The following morning as I was praying, I heard The Lord say, “What do you want from this?” Without having a conscience thought I heard myself say, “I want 2000 letters”. As soon as those words came out of my mouth, I began to back pedal. Paying for 500 was one thing - 2000 was another. Immediately The Lord said, “You can manage 500 on your own but you will have to trust Me for the 2000.” I realized at that moment that I had waded out into the water where I could stand on my own and be safe, but He was asking me to swim.

The Lord gave me some strategy - ask for sponsorships. Each sponsorship cost $10 and would cover the cost for 12 letters. I shared the vision with my first client that morning and she handed me a check for $100. The journey had begun. As The Lord sent the money, I ordered stamps and letters. One by one people in the community and our brothers and sisters at Grace House came along beside us, picked up the vision and helped us run with it.

We organized a workday one Saturday between 10-12. The 22 workers who came to help finished 800 letters that day. It was a fun morning fellowshipping together as we worked toward a common cause. What a blessing.

Thank you all who helped in any way. We passed our goal of 2000. In the end we sent out 2625 letters to Christians in Georgia and Pennsylvania. Those names were prayed over, and we trust God that as He moved on their hearts to vote for values that align with His Word they obeyed.

Isn’t He just amazing. I am reminded of the scripture that says in Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen”.

Check out myfaithvotes.org. They have valuable information concerning elections. Go to My Voter Hub on their website and you can find voting and election information from any state. Keep this as a tool for future reference.
