Being a widow, I know how hard it is to get someone to help you with repairs around the house that you don’t know how to do. My husband was a wonderful man who always took care of doing repairs. When he passed away, I was clueless about how to do much of anything which involved working with tools. Last year, I found that my craft shop had a rotting floor. I couldn’t walk on the floor for fear of falling through and causing bodily damage.
I heard that Grace House had implemented a new ministry which might be able to help me. I contacted Pastor Derrick Wallace about it. The ministry is called SMART teams which stands for small maintenance and repair teams. Through this conversation the time was set up for the team to come to my craft house and work. I paid for the supplies, and they did the rest!
One Friday, Pastor Derrick called me and had assembled a group of able-bodied men that had the time to volunteer to do this project. He asked if they could come the next day to do the work. I was overcome with joy at the news! Early the next morning, workers began to arrive in my back yard. Broderick Phillips, Jessie Beck, Paul Deaton, and Pastor Derrick all started to empty the shop and began to put the new floor down. When they finished the project, they put the stuff back in my newly repaired craft shop. They did a much better job of putting it back in than I would have done!
Words cannot express the gratitude that I have for these men and for my Church for making the job possible. My heart is filled with pride and love for those responsible for helping me and for this extreme generosity shown to me.
