Grace House Annual Fall Picnic

Updated: May 2

By: Pat Smith

Everyone loves a picnic and the Grace House family is no exception.

When Grace House had to cancel the October 22 biannual picnic at St Florian Park due to inclement weather, it was rescheduled for the following Sunday, October 29, but a new venue had to be found because the park wasn't available. It was decided that the picnic would take place at the church.

The day arrived in an array of beautiful fall colors and people showed up to join in with all the festivities. While many people milled around, others sat and talked and watched the

children have a good time. During the course

of the evening, many even spotted a double

rainbow over church.

We had a great meal of hot dogs and all the trimmings and more varieties of chili than you could shake a stick at, most were entries in the five category chili cook-off.

The winners in each category were:

White Chili: Sandy Blackstock Everything And the Kitchen Sink: Rosemary Parrish

Red Mild Chili: Steve Waits

Red Spicy Chili: Candace Cooper. Wild Game Chili: Anna Laura Lawrence.

The judges included: Michael and Vicki Sledge, Ken and Angela Hutson, Angela Phillips, John Messamore, and Susan Moseley.

To the delight of all ages, the candy apple bar made a repeat appearance at the picnic as well.

According to Kristin Melo, church children's ministry, there were lots of activities for the children.  There were three inflatables, a pumpkin ring toss, Ooey Gooey Pool, match a duck, falling can toss, and face painting. Kristin said she had many volunteers help with the kids' events.

When late afternoon arrived it became apparent that we couldn’t stay all night, so we gathered up our things and headed to our respective homes. A good time was definitely had by all!
